2023 Scarepot Contest Winners

2022 Scarepot Contest Winners

Contest Rules

The contest will run from October 19 – 30, 2024. Judging will be the week of October 28 with the winners to be announced on October 31.

Participation

Participants must pre-register for this event. Scarepots should be placed in front of the businesses which created them. Only one scarepot will be judged for each business, but please put out as many as you like.

Awarded Prizes

Scarepots will be awarded ribbons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Winners will be announced during the Halloween Trick or Treat Event held on October 31, 2024. The winners will have their names posted on the Chardon Square Association website, the City of Chardon’s electronic announcement board and/or the local newspaper.

Judging Criteria

The Chardon Square Association reserves the right to deny entry privileges of displays to be considered offensive or not family-friendly. In order for unbiased judging, the judges will come from outside the Chardon area.

Entries will be judged on:

  • Originality of the design
  • Use of props
  • Street appeal
  • Fall traditionalism – incorporation of autumn harvest theme
  • Use of recyclable and natural products

All scarepot entries must be hand-made, and please note that they will be subjected to all weather conditions; therefore, construction materials should be durable and all ornamentation securely attached.

Setup and Removal

Set up dates will be October 13 to 21 at a minimum, but earlier the better! All entries will need to be on display and ready for judging on October 28 by noon. No exceptions.

A sign will be provided to you and should be displayed by your scarepot at all times. List on your sign: display name and business/organization name. Recommended pot size is 12 inches and up.

The removal of scarepots will be left to each individual business/organization. However, we expect them to be displayed through Tuesday, November 3, 2024.

Not Permitted

  • No controversial, social, political or religious themes
  • No store-bought masks, costumes or props
  • No sharp objects such as real pitchforks, knives, hooks, etc.
  • No flammable objects such as tiki torches, gas-powered generators, or any open flames

The CSA has the right to refuse and/or remove any contest entry, as we deem necessary. NO EXCEPTIONS OR WAIVERS.

Damages

The Chardon Square Association, the City of Chardon, or their agents will not be held responsible for any damage to the scarepot entries.

Disclaimers

The Chardon Square Association, the City of Chardon, or their agents will not be held responsible for any damage to the scarepot entries.
