In early 2017, we were informed by the City of Chardon that the flagpole at the south end of the square was in need of a replacement. The metal structure was deteriorating and the mechanism on the pole used to raise and lower the flag would often malfunction, causing the flag to become stuck.
The Chardon Square Association was proud to offer $2,500 towards the project. The City worked with the vendor to select a new replacement pole, which houses the mechanism used to raise and lower the flag inside the pole itself to protect it from the weather.
The new flagpole was installed in October 2017.
